When I got back from a business trip, five boxes of Kicking The Habit were on my kitchen table. It’s officially out. It’s already available in the Kindle store, and now that it’s printed it should soon be available as a trade paperback on Amazon. The book is bigger and heavier than I had anticipated: an 8.5” by 11” workbook. Feedback from my friends on this decision was positive. “I love this form factor,” declared a dude from my men’s small group, “It’s not too small so I can write in the margins!” Another man declared “it has large print!” (12 pt Cambria). In hindsight, all the other books I read are smaller with smaller print, which may be due to shipping costs. Specifically, within a week I had mailed about a dozen copies to “influencers,” and discovered that postage for priority mail costs more than the (wholesale) cost of the book. This is partly due to the large size that requires a bigger envelope and the fact that including a cover letter converts a book from media mail (about $3.20 for each book) to either first class mail or priority mail (about $6.70 each). So I was not at all cost-conscious in the layout, design, or size of the book! Oh well. I should thank my publisher that his relative lack of profit motive allows me to distribute this book for the lowest possible price on Kindle and softcover. I’ve never launched (or written!) a book before, so I’m learning as I go.

Now that it’s out, I have a lot of work to do.

  • Already I am lining up some podcasts and meetings with the leaders of established ministries that might be interested in KTH.
  • I am very excited to speak in July at the Xenos Summer Institute in support of KTH.
  • I have to fire up this website and make sure it’s working correctly.
  • I need to write a leader’s guide and a resource for how to use KTH with women who want to quit porn.

In the near future, expect to see blogs addressing some of these “action items,” and the handout page with downloads of all the worksheets should expand to include the Leaders’ Guide and an Appendix C for using KTH with women.

It’s out. It’s on. Book launch, Go.
